Project Status: Successfully Completed

Project Overview: Steenbok Construction Limited served as the main contractor for the construction of one of the largest virology laboratories in Southern Africa. The project involved a complex structural transformation of the existing facility, requiring the demolition of the original roof structure to facilitate the construction of a new first floor, alongside a comprehensive renovation of the ground level.

Key Technical Scope:

• Structural Works: Execution of a steel portal frame structure, reinforced concrete suspended slabs, and extensive masonry blockwork.
• Finishes: Installation of high-durability terrazzo flooring, tiling, paint and ceiling.
• MEP: Plumbing, electrical installations, firefighting systems, and HVAC systems
• Coordination: Orchestrated the onsite integration of high-security Access Control, CCTV systems, and specialized Laboratory Cabinetry to meet international biosafety standards.

Future-Ready Infrastructure:

The facility has been engineered to accommodate advanced research and containment requirements. While the primary laboratory infrastructure is now fully operational, the building design proactively incorporates the necessary structural and systems foundations for the future integration of a Biosafety Level 3 (P3) Laboratory.
